SITE SELECTION CRITERIA

5 REGATTA LOCATIONS

Locations are selected by the BSI Executive Committee based on the following criteria:

CRITERIA FOR SELECTING THE HOST SITE FOR THE BSI CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA

Proposal to host the BSI Championship Regatta for the Blind must consider the following:

 1.  Regatta Management

            Principal Organizer- regatta experience

            Yacht Club/ Sailing Center Support

            Race Committee

 2.  Venue

            Sailing/Racing Area

            Yacht Club/ Sailing Center Facilities

 3.  Boat(s)

            Type & Size - describe in detail unless it is a widely recognized one design.

(Candidates should consider using Sonars, if possible, as they have been recognized as the Paralympic and IFDS boat of choice.)

Condition of Boats/Sails

Number of boats available

 4.  Weather Conditions - during time of year proposed

 5. Lodging/Accommodations

 6.  Meals

 7.  Transportation

Air & ground travel to location

Daily travel from lodging to sailing site.

 8.  Financial Expenses

            Competitor Costs (est.)- food, lodging, other

            Regatta Entry Fees

            Boat Damage Deposit/ Damage Costs

 9.  Financial Support/ Sponsorship (potential)- to Regatta Organizers. 

 10. Community Support

- Area blindness organization(s)

- Political leaders, others

 11. Medical Emergency Staff/Facilities

 12. Social Events/ Activities

 13. Media Promotional Opportunities 

14. OTHER: Please describe the general location that would make this area an attractive location to visit by blind sailors.  Additional visitor information from brochures or videotapes is encouraged.
